Privacy Policy
Papers.Data.Code publishes The Weekly ML Signal and this website. To send you the newsletter we need one thing: your email address. We don't sell it, rent it or share it with sponsors, and we don't use advertising trackers.
Who is responsible
Papers.Data.Code is run by Svetlana, its editor, who is the controller of your personal data. For anything on this page, write to [email protected]; the controller's full name and postal address are available on request.
What we collect and why
If you subscribe
Your email address, when you subscribed and when you confirmed the subscription (our record of your consent), and whether you are still subscribed. We use it only to send The Weekly ML Signal. Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), which you give by ticking the box on the form and confirming the link we email you, and can withdraw at any time.
When you press Subscribe, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you're a person, not a bot (it looks at your IP address and browser signals), and we look up whether your address's domain accepts email. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the list free of bots and mistyped addresses (Art. 6(1)(f)).
We count, without your address, which subscribe form was used and on which page, and whether it worked, so we know where the site helps people subscribe.
Opens and clicks in the newsletter
Our emails contain a small invisible image (a web beacon) that tells our email provider when an email is opened, and links go through the provider's redirect, so we see which links were clicked. We use this to learn which sections are useful, to keep the list healthy (for example, to stop mailing addresses that never open) and to report totals to sponsors; sponsors only ever get totals, never who opened or clicked. You can block the beacon by not loading images in your email app. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving the newsletter (Art. 6(1)(f)); you can object at any time by writing to us.
If you visit the website
No account, no forms other than the subscription. Cloudflare delivers the site and protects it from attacks; to do that it processes your IP address and browser details. Visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies and doesn't identify or follow you across sites. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure site and knowing how much it's read (Art. 6(1)(f)).
If you write to us
Your address and message, to answer you. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in replying (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Cookies
The website sets no cookies and uses no advertising or tracking tools. Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie that tells people from bots; it is strictly necessary and contains nothing about you.
Who handles it for us
- Mailjet (Sinch group): keeps the subscriber list and sends the emails. Data is stored in the EU.
- Cloudflare: hosting, security, the bot check on the subscription form and visit statistics for this website.
- Microsoft (Microsoft 365): our mailbox, if you write to us.
They act only on our instructions under data processing agreements. Nobody else gets your data. Cloudflare and Microsoft are US companies; where data leaves the EU, the transfer is covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Subscription data: until you unsubscribe. After that your address stays only on a do-not-email list, so we don't mail you again by mistake. Ask us and we delete it completely.
- Click records: as long as you're subscribed; totals per issue we keep.
- Emails to us: as long as needed to deal with your request.
Your rights
You can unsubscribe in one click: every email has a link at the bottom. You can also ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, hand it over in a portable format, restrict its use or stop using it on the basis of our legitimate interest. Write to [email protected]; we answer within one month. If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Children
The newsletter is for ML engineers and researchers and isn't meant for anyone under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new date. If the change matters for subscribers, we'll say so in the newsletter.
